This week, all the various groups got to present their project. It was wonderful to see everyone’s group work with the work an creativity they put into it. My group got to present our project and we got good comments from our course mates however they found the intro too long and it was quite difficult for them to go back to the main menu when they clicked on a particular interface. Dr Cecile also commended the project and made some remarks. She liked the idea of the project but the fact that we didn't make it easy for the audience to leave a particular stage made project caging. Putting a skip button would give them an option to stay or leave. We could also be specific in our theme bearing in mind questions such as ‘ why does the project matter? why do we hold on to creativity? and why do we need to do this ?’ Timing was also another point to take note of. The time for each video was too long. In all, it was a good project.

I also got to learn more about DIY culture as a culture that suggests that people can remake and repair and fix things for themselves in relation to environmentalism and sustainability. According to DIY culture;

  • It is believed that craft is powerful, we want to show the depth ad breath of crafting the world. Anything you want, you can get from a person in your community
  • Craft is personal. To know that something was made by hand, by someone who cares that you like it, it makes that object much more enjoyable.
  • Craft is political, we are trying to change the world. We want everyone to think corporate culture and consumerism.
  • Craft is possible. Anyone can create something.

During the workshop, I learnt how to make barcodes and connecting it to my EKO project. I also learnt how to develop assets for EKO and learnt how to use photoshop to edit images and make gifs.

We got another group assignment to work on another group project that could be educational, cultural or environmental but this time, we would add a barcode to the project. This time around, we decided to work on first aid for children and adults. The project focused on teaching the audience hoe to what to do if there was a case of drowning, severe choking heart attack and unconsciousness. We all brought the resources to be used for the project, I worked on the barcode, Jerry decided to make the gifs and Wanxin worked on Eko. While we compiled the project, I got to see the difference between having to use a barcode and not using it. Using a barcode makes it easily accessible to the audience. It also makes it catchy and attractive to the audience. I also loved how I and my group members were able to collaborate to make this project work out perfectly. We all had different ideas for the project but we were able to let go of our individual differences to create something appealing to the audience.

The EKo software

while I went through the readings for the week, I got to understand the impact of the web 2.0; which provided easy to use online tools made it easy for people to share creativity, connect with people and their creativity and it also gave room for collaboration and sharing of resources. I also learnt that creativity is we do as human beings tend to be inventive. Creativity includes the everyday ideas that we have about how to do this and according to Gauntlett, this is an unpopular notion as most scholars believe that creativity is not just about making new things but also something that needs to be recognised as significant to other people especially the movers and shakers of the field in which the creative content is centred on, however, this sets a high bar for what could be accepted as creativity as it would need approval from these movers and shakers.
